Middle of the month and time to join in with Clare’s Share Your Desktop ChallengeπŸ˜ŽπŸ‘

On the gaming PC this month I have a shot of Miss Lola hauling a tank of Anhydrous Ammonia from Kansas City (KS) to Corpus Christi (TX)…

The image was taken on US169 in Kansas where there is a mix of farmland and wooded areas. That’s a magnificent Oak tree on the right – an excellent piece of work by one of the mapping developers at SCS Software. Miss Lola is our Kenworth W990 and is a bit of a ‘Lady of the night’ with purple underfloor and marker lights that really show brightly in the dark. With a 455HP engine and 12sp automatic box, she’s ideally suited to the lighter agricultural deliveries and currently is returning the best mpg in the fleet.

On the photo PC we have an image taken on my street…

LFB DPL167 (WX17 XZV) on Long Lane, Finchley

London Fire Brigade appliance DPL167 has just left the station on a shout, its lights shining brightly in the gloom of a winter’s afternoon. I live around 400yds from the Fire Station so this is a part of my normal dayπŸ˜… I always wish the firefighters good luck as they passπŸ‘

  1. We are far enough away from any emergency station that, should we hear one, it’s unusual, and this usually means something has happened in our neighbourhood. Luckily, the sirens are few and far between. In seven years I can count how many times I’ve hear them on one hand. Great pics, Martin, and thank you for sharing these with me and, as usual, joining in on the SYD fun.

    1. Thanks ClareπŸ˜ŽπŸ‘ Finchley Fire Station is also a training station for appliance drivers so we get a mix of real emergencies and practise emergencies. The appliance in my photo is on a real 999 response. How can you tell? It has its ladders on board – The training appliances don’t. Another way of telling is the station and division indicator plates mounted on the side of the vehicle – a training vehicle won’t have them fitted. The vehicles rotate regularly, so an active vehicle one month might be a training vehicle the next and vice versa. It’s important that the driver learns on a current machine so there’s no confusion about differences when on an actual shout. You may be wondering if they keep me awake at night – no, they don’t unless they’re stopped outside in which case it’s the lights that wake me up! πŸ˜‚

  2. I live near a fire station, too. We hear the emergency vehicles and I always think of those who are in need of care. Very nice photograph, Martin.

    1. Thanks Debra πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘
