The month of October is one of my favourite times of the year IRL and also in Farming Simulator. The trees have turned various shades of yellow through to copper. It’s generally cooler but not yet frosty. There may be rain but often we have what’s known as an Indian Summer. The blackberries and fungi adorn the woods and hedgerows…

That’s all very nice but we don’t have time to stop and savour. October is one of the most varied months in terms of types of tasks to be done around the farm. As I only own 4 fields and have completed my intended sowing for this year, my October is going to be one of working for the farms around – Something I had started doing in late September.

First up and there are some Bale Wrapping jobs – Grass that has been mowed and baled ready to be turned into Silage. For this I initially hired the necessary equipment and got this old Mercedes-Benz Trac 1100…

…After doing a couple of these I realised that owning my own Bale-Wrapper was a good idea and also a first step towards possibly buying a grass field in the future. Here’s the Arion with my Kuhn wrapper…

…It’s a versatile machine capable of wrapping round and square bales. Of course, buying a grass field of my own is some way off but at least I can take wrapping tasks without leasing the equipment anymore.

Our Canola crop has sprouted – I checked it out one lunchtime…

Back to the grind and there are a lot of cultivating jobs to be done…

…The Autumn rains had set in at the time I was working this field. If I’d hired equipment for this job I would have been given a larger cultivator for the task than my Kuhn Prolander. In this instance though, with all the slippery mud, cultivating a smaller area on each run avoided a lot of traction issues and I bet I got the job done quicker as a result!

Some of the money from the cultivating jobs was put to good use – I bought a Bailey trailer that can carry 33kltr of grain…

…which will speed up the movement of grain when we sell, likely in December. I’ve kept the Krampe Kipper for now as it may be useful for taking grain to the old mill where things are a bit cramped.

Fertilizing jobs started appearing and I can get a lot of those done in a day. There were still cultivating jobs to be done as well, so I leased the equipment for a particularly large field and set a worker loose before dashing off the do some more fertilizing…

…Never forgetting the Countryside Code – Closing the gates behind us! By the time I got back to the farm the rains had come again. I sheltered in the shed…

…pondering whether to run to the farmhouse or wait it out. Meanwhile, our worker was still finishing up on that cultivation task although he’s nearly done!

Misty starts became the norm later in the month as I tackled more fertilizing tasks…

…with my Agri-Spread AS2100 SCS.

Sowing tasks began to appear near the end of the month too. Time for me to take the Bednar out for a spin…

…It was also a chance to look at two fields that I might consider buying in future…

I started the month with £118k and finished with £124k after the loans had been paid, all despite buying two items of equipment, so not a bad month! I think I’ll be back with a Mid-Winter report some time in the future👍
