I guess we have to decide what counts as Higher for this week’s Fun Foto Challenge 😅👍
I don’t do non-medicinal drugs but a nice pint of ale lifts the mood…
Sticking with the B&W, there’s the escalators at St Pancras with that magnificent roof to admire…
The stairs at Stratford station connecting the upper and lower levels of this busy interchange…
On a visit to Madeira, this is the open top bus that takes you up to the viewing area atop Cabo Girao – the tallest Sea Cliff in Europe and the 3rd tallest anywhere in the world…
The ramp from the bus stop at East End Road, Finchley…
The Teleferico Funchal-Monte – The easy way up to the Monte Palace and its gardens…
The Scalinata di Trinità dei Monti in Rome – A bit of a climb in the heat…
The climb to Blackfriars…
…A little bit of history for this one. The lines used to go straight ahead to Holborn Viaduct station and Farringdon. The line through Holborn Viaduct was closed in 1990 and new office blocks were built where the railway used to run. As part of the development the tracks were realigned to dive down from Blackfriars bridge to a new City Thameslink station built in the foundations of the office blocks above. At an average of 1 in 30 the climb to Blackfriars is pretty steep, if short – A climb that would have been unthinkable in steam days but the modern Class 700’s romp up it. Apparently, some of the track maintenance machines do not!!! 🤣
