This week I’ve been very down… Down with a nasty virus. Actually saw a Doctor – That’s how bad it was! Starting to feel a bit better but now Epi seems to be going down with it too, so I think I’ll be on cooking duties for the weekend 😅 So that’s the ‘Down’ for this week’s Fun Foto Challenge covered 🤣

Here’s the Up escalators at St Pancras leading from the lower shopping mall to the platform level…

Up Escalator

…For passenger flow purposes the ups and downs are in separate parts of the station. Meanwhile, in most London Underground stations the Up and Down escalators like these at St John’s Wood are found either side of a flight of stairs…

What goes Underground has to come up somewhere – A Northern Line train ascends into the sunlight at East Finchley after around 50mins in the dark tunnels and artificially lit stations beneath London…

Sometimes you just have to climb up to the station because someone built the other line at a different level…

…Southern class 377 units at Sutton. Then there’s the steep drop off the flyover as you approach Lewisham…

If you’ve a head for heights and don’t mind the floor moving a bit maybe the stairs up to the Xstrata Tree-Top Walkway at Kew Gardens are for you…

…Or, if you’d prefer to play safe, there’s the spiral stairs up to the Elevated Walkway in the Palm House…

…There’s another spiral to take you down once more at the other end.

Designed to get Fire Fighters up above the flames and attack it from above, this is ALP14…

…One of the London Fire Brigade’s Aerial Ladder Platorm’s. This is a training exercise at Finchley Fire Station. You can see it has the potential to go a hell of a lot higher! This photo dates to 2009 and this vehicle has been superseded. The current models are Scania’s and designated Turntable Ladder (TL). Currently there are twelve that can extend to 32m and three more that can reach 64m!

Finally, a coach belonging to Les Couriers Catalans departs Collioure on a run to Perpignan…

…Pedal to the metal climbing up from the harbour. One arm on the steering wheel – the other presumably reaching for the gear lever. The young lady driver flashed a wonderful smile as she went past 😀👍

One response to “Up or Down — or both — CFFC”

  1. I love that escalator and the spiral staircase. Of course, the trains are appreciated. I hope you’re both feeling better soon.
