Running a little late again this month with my entry for Clare’s Share Your Desktop challenge. However, that has proved to be a positive as we’re now into the annual trucking Christmas event which this year is called Return to Winterland, meaning I have a Christmas themed desktop for a change πŸ˜…

So, on the Gaming PC we have a shot of my Mack Pinnacle ‘Korra’ departing the Winterland town square to return to the ‘real world’ via a portal with a load bound for Monroe in Louisiana…

…I can be a bit Bah Humbug! about the SCS Christmas event. Much as I love the effort they put in every year, I find the Winterland versions a pain because all the jobs are comprised of very short trips between the collection point and the drop-off with the portal in between. Given that the loads are at the heavy end of what you get in box trailers, it’s a nightmare for fuel consumption! I hope it’s a more normal event next year so I can choose to do longer deliveries πŸ‘

On the photo PC I have an Azuma Panorama…

Azuma Panorama

…Three Hitachi AT300’s standing beneath the elegant roof of King’s Cross station. Left to right they are 801111, 800209 & 800202. The class 801’s are pure electric in normal service whilst the 800’s are bi-mode – electric where overhead power is available but with multiple diesel generators to allow them to work on unelectrified tracks. The design allowed for the changeover between modes to be done at line speed though I believe it is usually carried out at station stops.

It’s been a bit of a long ‘The Week Before’ for me with too many things that had to be dealt with pre-Christmas. However, I think I have finally caught up! I hope everyone has a great time over the coming couple of weeks. Season’s greetings to you all πŸ˜€πŸ‘

  1. I reckon they would do the engine power switch while the trains are in the station as well Martin

    1. Yeah – Just because the capability is there doesn’t mean it will be used. However, in an interesting similar situation, Class 378’s on trips down to Clapham Junction do swap between 25Kv overhead power and 750v third rail while in motion north of Shepherds Bush. For some reason their 377 sisters don’t – They stop to do the swap. That’s possibly down to different company policies rather than capability.

      1. That is interesting, perhaps you’re right

  2. I love the truck and the Xmas tree in that winter wonderlandπŸŽ„- it put a smile on my face. Sorry it’s taken me so long to get here but thanx all the same for joining in on the SYD fun.

    1. Thanks Clare – Glad I could give you something to smile about πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘
