Dragging my feet a little with this but it’s time to catch up with Clare’s Share Your Desktop Challenge 😎👍

On the Gaming PC this month I have a screenshot from a police game called The Precinct. In the game you start as a rookie cop assigned to the Averno City Police Department. Built in a retro top down style, the game looks good and is fun to play despite a few bugs and anomalies – Which the Devs are working on. Centred around on-duty shifts in patrol areas, the game emphasises correct Police procedures and incorrect actions are penalised. Meanwhile, the criminals don’t play by the rules and it’s quite easy to wind up being killed in the line of duty! You never know what each shift and crime intervention will bring. Here’s a textbook stop of a motorist who was driving in an erratic manner…

…Tipped off by radio that someone had reported a drunk driver, I saw him coming and blipped the siren while pulling across the road to impede his passage. From there it was a case of following procedure. Check his ID – smell of alcohol from the car so asked to step out. Searched the suspect – found Narcotics and Counterfeit Sunglasses. Then breathalysed him before checking the boot for any other illegal items – none found. Driver arrested for DUI and Possession. You can see the points awarded for each of these actions on the upper left. Normally Counterfeit items wouldn’t warrant an arrest, only a fine, but in this instance he’s going in anyway. The Number 12 car arrived while this was going on and promptly drove into the parked vehicle – I did say there were some bugs🤣 At least they were there to escort our prisoner back to the precinct 👍

On the Photo PC I have a shot taken at Clapham Junction of 66143 weaving its way across the points to route through platform 6 with an aggregates train…

66143 at Clapham Junction

…The train has come from Angerstein Wharf in Greenwich where sand and gravel dredged from the Thames Estuary and the Channel are processed for the construction industry. It is on route to Woking where there is an aggregates distribution yard. The mixed housing and office blocks of Battersea and Nine Elms form a backdrop in the heat haze.

No change on the mobile phone desktop.

  1. The number of criss crossing track is mind boggling Martin

    1. So many routes meet here Brian and they need to be able to interconnect. Additionally, all platforms need to be accessible. This service usually routes through platform 5 but because of an issue on the line west of the station it was using platform 6. Most freight trains use very convoluted routes to get to their destinations anyhow. The most direct route to Woking is on the opposite side of the station but routing through Feltham and Chertsey keeps it away from the very busy mainline to Portsmouth, Bournemouth and the West Country.

      1. Lots of clicking and clacking

  2. The train in the switchyard is an amazing photo. I wish the real police were penalized for improper behavior 😦

    1. 👮 Amen to that Dan 😅👍 Now for the train – Thanks😎👍 That isn’t a switch yard – that’s the main line 🤣

      1. Wow! Complex routing.

      2. Have a look at Clapham Junction on Google Maps aerial view – It’s a very complex station 😎👍

      3. 😎👍 I’m currently working on my submission for this week’s Fun Foto – so expect that tomorrow 👍

  3. Those are absolutely crazy main lines, but I’m sure if I looked in the right place, I’d find something similar somewhere here – just not right here where I live as we don’t have trains in my vicinity, they are a 20 minute car ride away and then you’ll only find two very straight lines, one for each direction (just in case 🤣). The police department game sounds like fun. Thanx for sharing these the me and, as usual, joining in on the SYD fun.

    1. You might struggle Clare – Got a station handling between 100 and 180 trains per hour cos that’s what Clapham Junction does? 😉 I think you’d love The Precinct – every shift is different and always a challenge 😎👍

      1. Yeah, I’d have to go to our busiest – Sydney Central. It has an average of 141/hour. (Yes, I had to look it up 🤣.) I’ve been there and it’s crazy – too much for me. I’m happier dealing with the 22 tracks (and who knows how many services) at Melbourne’s Southern Cross Station. That’s where the bus from the airport drops me so I can go to the track I’m familiar with where I know the next train will take me to my daughter’s suburb. I missed the train once and almost had a melt down until I discovered the next train was already arriving and would be departing in less than five minutes.
I shall take a photo for you next time I’m there 🥰.

      2. That would be nice 😀👌It sounds like you find busy stations a bit overwhelming. I understand – you are definitely not alone in that. Many people get stressed amid the hustle and bustle. And heaven forbid that there should be a platform change. That can be the last straw for some. I’m fortunate that amid all the action I’m generally at peace with the world even when I’m on a tight schedule.
