Time for me to catch up with Cee’s Which Way Challenge for this week๐
I don’t have any bridges as grandiose as the wonderful ones Cee has shared from Oregon and I thought I’d approach this challenge a little differently. Many bridges are hidden from us as we go about our daily lives – we just forget they are there as we cross them without a moments thought. This is East Croydon Tramlink station…
…It sits on a bridge over the Southern mainline from Victoria to Gatwick and Brighton.
Other Bridges no longer fulfil their original task. This one once carried a local road across the railway near Frome. With the building of new roads, the lane over this bridge fell into disuse leaving the roadbed of the bridge overgrown…
…and now only used as a footpath.
Some bridges have been removed, leaving just the stonework as in the case of this abutment and pier…
…A reminder of the past when trains from Crieff to Balquhidder crossed the Turret Burn.
Finally, a bridge that has evolved to become not just a Bridge, but a Station above the River Thames…
…London Blackfriars – 30 Thameslink services cross the river here each hour with a few more at peak times.
