I agree. I think they do work. Something about the high color contrast in the first and the clouds and mutedness in the second…

Thank you Renate 🙂 The effects in both these images were created by processing a single raw file as a pseudo HDR image. You might like to try HDR processing – I use Photomatix which you can experiment with at http://www.hdrsoft.com/ .
