Cold rain and Christmas Lights – Winter in London
London has seen little of Jack Frost’s icy fingers so far this year. Only one morning of snow flakes that melted almost before they touched the ground and a couple of heavy frosts. Perhaps January and February will bring colder, fresher, weather and the delights of a crunchy landscape?
Like it was in January 2010…

I am not so keen on the idea of snow, though it is good for photos, but a few bright frosty mornings where your breath hangs on the air would be nice.
This weather is making us redefine winter!

I love the London Christmas lights!
I lived south of London for a few years, and I actually think I prefer the dry cold of a western Canadian winter than the damp cold of a British winter… although much of that was probably due to the slow, poor heating system of our house in England!

The first picture is so pretty. I love the wet look and the reflections. We didn’t get any snow, I think the snow resorts are hurting. I would love to try to ski.

Your photos have me desiring cooler a climate. You could send some of that cooler weather my way Martin. We had 29C yesterday. I hate hot weather, looking forward to Autumn already. 6:20am & it’s already 23 degrees. Phew it’s gunna be another scorcher.
Hi Tony – I don’t know if taping a print of one of my photos to the aircon would help? I don’t like hot weather much either but I can walk through it. We had 40 degrees at Tours on a flight down to the south of France a few years back. We couldn’t leave the aircraft standing in one spot for too long – it would have sunk into the tarmac! Ray (my fellow pilot) and I went through 8 litres of water on that one and when we got to our hotel in Villefranche de Lauragai my Wife put away two large Kronenbourg’s in swift succession without either touching the sides! She doesn’t normally touch Lager 😉 Hope it cools down for you – Best wishes for 2012 🙂

Thanks Theresa – The older shot was taken specifically for the Geograph project so i wasn’t trying to achieve anything artistic, just give an accurate portrayal of Long Lane in the snow. That said, I believe my skills are improving – it’s been a re-learning exercise after a gap of around 15 years during which I didn’t really take many photos 🙂

Yes, some snow would be nice COR 🙂 I don’t think you need too much advice – your photos look good to me. Here’s a thought you might find of interest – I see you were out photographing one of the protests earlier in the year – try being one of the protesters… I think you get more intimate shots that way.
