First photo taken by unknown Post Office official photographer. Second photo taken by Leonard Burt and initially published in the Financial Times. I have tried to contact the photographer to seek permission to post this shot that I bought a print of from the Financial Times but I have been unsuccessful. Should the photographer request its removal I shall be happy to comply.

Hi Kate – I can vaguely remember the photographer crouched down in the gutter to take the shot though I didn’t realise he was photographing me at the time!
It shouldn’t be astonishing that you still have the same face,
but somehow it is!!!!

How fast the years fly, eh?
You can work out from the first shot Nancy that I will complete 40 years service late in 2012 🙂 Although I’ve worked for the same employer all that time, the continual changes in technology have seen my job change a lot over the years.

There are quite a few memories Bob – I can name 7 of the nine people closest to the camera (including myself of course!). Looks like wide lapels, big collars and flares were very much the order of the day in 1978 🙂 Thanks for popping by 🙂

Thanks Patti – It was the first real industrial action by the old POEU in the 96 year history of the union! We almost always negotiated our way to an agreement without anything worse than an overtime ban (and those were pretty rare!).
I’m glad you shared a photo of your past with eyes. Those good old days never fails to bring a warm smile to anyone who remembers. When I look at my older photos too, I feel nostalgic about the fun and great times of my younger years. What an amazing journey it must had been for you. A noble man with a lot to give. LoL – They don’t make shirts like that any more… Those Flares sadly died a long time ago. The modern equivalent appears to be Boot Cut – but they’re not quite so extravagent 🙂
