The observant reader may have noticed that the name in the title was visible on the Farm Kiosk in my introductory Farming Simulator 25 post. I will be using the name for my posts about the subsequent events on the farm as it gives a feeling of identity.
As usual, the game begins in the month of August – the last month of Summer and a period when the likes of Wheat and Canola need to be harvested. However, I did hint that there would be some major changes to the farm at the beginning. I sold off the cattle and their pasture. In their place I put a chicken coop and two large greenhouses. These are in keeping with my intention to do some market gardening and sell produce.
To get the greenhouses functional, I will need a supply of water. As for the coop, I will need wheat – fortunately, I have a field of that to harvest๐ So the first task was to get a water tanker – Off to the vehicle dealer in the John Deere 3650! I was also going to need a Front-loader and pallet forks for when I started moving my produce to market. Might as well get that sorted on the same trip! Here I am kitted out and ready for the return run…
I think it’s time for a quick look at the farm map…
…This is a zoomed in view. At the top centre is the farmyard. The Magenta icons around the yard denote the farm shop and the grain silo. The dark blue one north of the central barn is the collection of beehives. The green and pale blue icons on the eastern side of the yard are the chicken coop and the greenhouses. The fields south of the yard with their numbers highlighted in green, 2, 3, 4 & 5, belong to me.
Water is available from a windpump on the farm but for some reason you get charged for using it and I will need a lot of it for the greenhouses. So, I needed to find a low bank on the river that wasn’t too far from the farm and thus get the water almost for free. I found a suitable location by the reddish-brown building due south of the farm. Here I am collecting from the river…
…It’s a slightly dangerous situation as you could easily back in a little too far and get very wet๐ Having obtained Water I was ready to plant fruit and veg in my greenhouses and set the production in motion…
…For the moment we’re growing Chillies, Tomatoes, Lettuce and Cabbage.
Then I harvested my Canola and Wheat crops…
…giving myself another decision – what to do with the straw. I decided to bale and store it for when the prices are better in the winter. I purchased a simple round baler and got a set of bale spikes for the front loader so that I could move the bales and store them in the barn…
…I can see I need to get in some practice at stacking ๐คฃ
Now I have wheat, I can get some Chickens. Here they are in the coop…
…I don’t think the amount of wheat will see me through the winter, but it’s a start and hopefully the eggs will be earning enough to cover for the cost of buying chickenfeed in a couple of months time.
That’s the key ingredients for my farm produce ambitions in place. Now I have some time to finish off the month doing some work for other farmers. The contract system has had a bit of an overhaul. For example, the actions required to make silage have been broken down into the constituent parts. You can take a mowing job or perhaps a bale wrapping job…
…Which, in this case, included using an unusual vehicle combination! There are lots of other contract options to earn you money but some of the excesses of FS22’s payments have been curtailed.
The first week of September will see me buying a plough and starting to prepare my fields for next year’s crops. See you soon ๐๐
