October in Osada – Tired of following the Sun’s daily cycle, its disciples hang their burdened heads and await the inevitable…
First week of October and I have three fields of Sunflowers to harvest. Even so, I found time to quickly harvest Soya Beans on a neighbour’s farm before getting stuck into my own work. I started with field 3…
…before moving to field 12 and finally field 14. Field 14 is the steepest graded field that I currently own and the Claas struggles up it…
…at 4kph! I have to hold my cap on as I pass that tree😅 If I buy a newer harvester I may need to remove the tree as the low branches could be an issue😒 Anyway, between the three fields, I’ve harvested 15k ltrs of Sunflower seed and that is going to make me a lot of cash in January😎👍
I sold some honey later in the week – I’m getting around €650 per pallet load so it’s a good minimal work sideline. Then I took on another ploughing job. This time I fitted the 4240 with wide tyres and that improved things a bit – It was still a struggle in the rain…
…but we got the job done and felt a lot more confident about continuing with the 4240. So confident that to start the 2nd week of October I took a much larger ploughing task😅…
Then there were more Sunflowers to harvest for other farmers…
…These jobs bring in good money with the crop-bonus being especially good – around 2/3rds the payment for the job!
The 3rd week and yet more Sunflowers…
…though I did get a Corn harvesting job too👍 Sometimes, on the way back to my farm I like to pause at this spot…
…and take in the view😎 Autumn is certainly in full ‘Mists and mellow fruitfulness’ mode👍 Time to crack on with some field preparations! The Oilseed Radish sprouted in field 40, so I turned that crop in to fertilize the field…
…Then it was time to try something new. I’ve bought a mulcher…
…and I’m going to use that to mulch the stubble left by my Sunflowers. This should bring a small yield improvement for the next crop sown in those fields although I sometimes take what the game manual says with a pinch of salt! Whatever the effect on yield, it’s good for the immersion🤣…
…So, mulching the stubble above and cultivating it in, below…
Having prepared field 14 in the third week, it was time to sow Winter Wheat during the 4th week. I decided to trust the Massey Ferguson 690T with the task and it handled both the sowing…
…and the subsequent rolling very well…
…These were the tasks on the steeper fields that the John Deere was having to do because the Zetor couldn’t handle them! With two more fields to prepare, it looks like I can redistribute the workload between the tractors once more👍 Two late haymaking jobs surfaced but with rain in the middle of the week it was a case of too late for me to be able to get the work done so I closed out the month with another Sunflower harvest…
As I go about my days work, I get to see a lot of the locals. I’ve been trying to get this young lady’s attention but she feigns disinterest…
…I guess I need a Lamborghini🤣
The work on Osada continues but the next post will be from Bure Valley Farm. If you are wondering why we’re having so many farming posts currently, it’s because I’m excited at starting on a new map. But also I’m not doing much trucking at present because there are major updates coming to both Truck Sim games imminently and we will also be getting the State of Oklahoma in ATS soon after, at which point it will be all hands to the pumps to clear off whatever community challenge SCS Software have lined up for us! So, until then it’s ‘Make hay while the sun shines’ for my farming in Giants Software FS22😎
