It’s the height of summer in Osada and we will have a lot of work to do come August. You may recall that in June we dug up the grass and created a new yard area with a shed for trailers. We also introduced beehives and chicken coops. Now we turn our attention back to field work.

It’s still haymaking time, so I earnt some cash on the side in July…

…mowing and tedding someone else’s lawnπŸ‘ But that really was about it for July. I did prepare fields 1 & 2 for their next crop which will be Canola – Cultivating and sowing Oilseed Radish as a catch crop to pre-fertilize.

1st week of August – the Oilseed has sprouted and needs to be cultivated back into the soil…

…Our Sunflowers are looking good in field 3😎

We’re now in a situation each week where, with more fields, I have to prioritise my own work over jobs for other farmers. That’s a good thing in some ways, but I still need that extra work to finance the farm’s expansion and equipment upgrades. Anyway, here we go harvesting our Wheat crop in field 40…

…That’s a big field and it had the bonus return of over €4kin baled straw…

…Between harvesting my own crop and dealing with the straw, There was a lot more harvesting to do elsewhere…

…It was a real mix of crops with Spring sown Wheat, Barley and Oats ripening at the same time as Sorghum…

There were also some fertilizing jobs to slot in between the harvesting as new crops were sown…

Somehow, we got the canola sown in fields 1 & 2 and I even remembered to roll the fields afterwards!…

High-Summer is having its effect on our new yard too. The vegetation is growing in the less used areas…

…There is also some mud and water seepage visible – the yard had some damp areas before I grassed it over and they’ve now reappeared. It’s not bad enough to worry about.

The Bees have started producing honey and we’re making a steady income from them…

…The Chickens will take a little longer to start making money but they’re not really costing me much as I can feed them from our harvested grains.

That sums up where we currently are in Osada. In many ways this is now a comfortable situation with plenty of leeway to handle any bumps in the road. I’m busy putting together the money for my next field purchase and I’m also considering replacing the Zetor 6245 with something a little more powerful. But, at the moment we’re in a comfortable place. And that raises the question – what next? At the moment, I intend to continue farming Osada and posting about my activities.

But… Here’s a heads-up for the near future…
