My Mother…

…And a Z4 shunter on Aberdeen Docks with her driver in 1958. All have passed into the realms of history. Only the infant being held high by his mum remains.

Photo by John Ritchie Addison (My Father) – also no longer with us.

  1. It’s a sweet photo when you consider that loved ones are no longer here. But just critiquing the photo for a moment, I love it! The driver struck such a grand pose and your mum smiling with baby….all in front of a magnificent machine! Certainly “Gone, But Not Forgotten” and very memorable!

    1. Thanks Debra – You can see how railways became such an important part of my life! 😉

  2. A definitely nostalgic image, lovely shot especially against the backdrop of that engine…

    1. Thanks Sue 🙂

  3. One image, a compilation of loves of your growing up: Mom, Photographer Dad, and the engine!
Growing up with love is then the foundation of an adult life lived with love: Wife, Son, and all the trains and engines!
And you the constant thread —

    1. Hi Judith – yes, a thread of interests and people. I suspect the trains thread will be broken now as my son is of the modern generation of computer games players and has lost that link with engineering that I still had (even though it was telecomms engineering). He has tried driving a train in Railworks but finds it difficult (is that an ‘expect results on a plate’ issue of modern children?) whilst running around a space killing everything in sight is not a problem! I guess this also deserves a post about why train sims are different to flight and car sims. Thanks for reading and commenting. I hope you are keeping well 🙂

  4. What a beautiful family photo Martin!

    1. Thanks Patti – (sorry, missed your response!)
